State of Incomplete Lift Projects for the 2022-23 Season

Alta’s Albion Basin is home to the Utah’s resort beginner terrain. A six-pack replacement for the outgoing Sunnyside lift, pictured on the right, is facing supply-chain-related delays.

UPDATE 2/9: Updated to reflect the completion of all remaining outstanding lift projects.

As we predicted this past fall, this season has been a disaster for timely new lift installations. Even as of the December holiday period, several resorts have not completed critical new chairlift and gondola projects intended for operation this winter.

A number of you may be planning vacations to resorts that have been affected by these lift delays. This page is intended to provide the most up-to-date information on the projects that have not been completed, and will be updated on a regular cadence.

As of January 21, 2023, twenty-three major lift projects have been completed, three major lift projects are still under construction, and three have been postponed or cancelled.

The following major lift projects have already been completed:

Under Construction

As of February 9th, 2023, all non-postponed lift projects have been completed for the 2022-23 season.

Postponed or Cancelled

Keystone: Bergman Bowl Six-Pack

The Bergman Bowl lift has been postponed until the 2023-24 season due to construction negligence. More information can be found here.

Park City: Silverlode Eight-Pack and Eagle Six-Pack

Park City’s 2022-23 lift projects have been cancelled due to roadblocks from the Park City Planning Commission. The unassembled parts are being shipped up to Whistler Blackcomb to be installed as completely separate lifts for the 2023-24 season, so it’s unlikely these projects will come to fruition any time soon.

Final Thoughts

Many of the 2022-23 lift projects in North America have been completed, but some resorts, such as Telluride, are still missing chairlifts that play crucial roles in their uphill networks. If you’re planning a trip to one of these destinations, make sure to be aware that the resort may be functioning at a significant experience handicap compared to normal operations.
