Sugarbush and Stratton Open for the Season Today, Homewood Opens Tomorrow

The last remaining resorts we’ve reviewed are either already open or will be operating by the end of the week. Vermont’s Sugarbush and Stratton opened today, December 10, after several delays amidst unfavorable weather. Tahoe’s Homewood opens tomorrow, December 11. At this point, the North American ski areas that haven’t opened yet are mainly local, regional hills.

The three resorts opening this week do not require reservations, but each has implemented new operational procedures due to COVID-19. In addition, all are subject to regional or state travel restrictions. We’ve detailed the key access facts below.

Travel Restriction Details - Sugarbush, Stratton

Out-of-state visitors must ensure adherence to Vermont’s quarantine requirements.

Anyone traveling to Vermont is currently required to quarantine for 14 days before hitting the ski slopes (or 7 days followed by a negative COVID test). If you’re traveling to the state by personal car, the quarantine and test can be done in your home state.

Resorts must collect contact tracing information on each visitor, and all guests are required to complete an attestation confirming compliance with travel quarantine requirements. More information on these guidelines can be found here.

Travel Restriction Details - Homewood

Due to California’s new regional stay-at-home order, non-essential travel and hotel stays in Lake Tahoe are prohibited. This essentially means that only locals—or those staying in somewhat nearby Nevada—will be able to access the resort tomorrow. More information on these guidelines can be found here.
