Winter Park to Implement 2020-21 Reservation System After Extraordinary Early Season Lines
Following two weeks of substantial resort demand, Winter Park announced a new lift-access reservation policy for all Ikon and season passholders. Starting December 19, passholders will need reservations to ski at this Colorado resort.
Sugarbush and Stratton Open for the Season Today, Homewood Opens Tomorrow
Vermont’s Sugarbush and Stratton opened today, December 10, after several delays amidst unfavorable weather. Tahoe’s Homewood opens tomorrow, December 11. At this point, the North American ski areas that haven’t opened yet are mainly local, regional hills.

California ski regions must suspend all non-essential overnight stays and non-takeout dining starting tonight at 11:59pm. Only one mountain in the state is unaffected by the order.

Evidently, Liftopia has been acquired by Skitude, a self-professed “worldwide community of snow and outdoor activities enthusiasts.”
UDOT Adds New Alternatives to Little Cottonwood Canyon EIS
UDOT has proposed new gondola and cog rail options to relieve traffic along Little Cottonwood Canyon. Unlike the original gondola proposal, both of these alternatives would offer base station parking.
California Bars Day-of Ticket Sales at Ski Resorts This Season
To limit mountain capacity and discourage last-minute traveling, California will no longer allow resorts to sell day-of lift tickets this season. Resorts are also asked to limit parking to ticket and pass holders only.

Whiteface Now Calling New Beginner Lift “Falcon,” Removing Previous “Express” Language
Last week, updates to Whiteface’s website revealed that its new Bear Den beginner area lift will now be called the Falcon Lift. This comes weeks after the site temporarily showed the new lift with the misleading “Owl Express” name.
