Arapahoe Basin to Proceed with Lift Replacements Next Season

According to Arapahoe Basin COO Al Henceroth, the resort is moving forward with replacing the Molly Hogan and Pallavicini chairlifts despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Henceroth details the reasoning here, and he also touches on their plans to auction the old chairs.

Our Take

Both of these lifts are more than 40 years old and due for retirement, and we’re glad that the resort feels comfortable proceeding with their replacements. We predict the new lifts will provide more reliable service throughout the season.

Arapahoe Basin has always been known for their slow lifts, and it’s no surprise that these two will remain fixed-grip. The comically short Molly Hogan will become a quad, providing higher capacity to the bunny hill area, and will likely stay in the same alignment. Pallavicini, which serves some of the most extreme A-Basin terrain, will remain a double; many will appreciate the continuation of low-capacity service to this area, but some argue that Pali could have used a capacity upgrade to help get visitors to Beavers terrain.
