Only North American Indoor Ski Area to Reopen on September 1

After shuttering operations for almost six months due to COVID-19, New Jersey’s Big Snow indoor skiing area at the American Dream mall has announced it will reopen on Tuesday, September 1 after receiving approval from the governor and state health officials. The 4-acre park will reopen at 25% of its normal capacity, and tickets will be sold online only for specific time slots. Rental equipment and gear will still be available and will be sanitized after each use.

Our Take

The first indoor North American ski area, Big Snow American Dream initially opened last December and had to close due to COVID-19 just 3 months later. The area will offer a unique opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes outside of normal season dates. Hopefully, the social distancing and health precautions the resort is taking will be enough to sustain COVID-era operations for the foreseeable future.

We haven’t been to Big Snow yet, but now that it’s reopening, we hope to visit in the coming weeks. We expect the experience to be substantially different than at a typical outdoor area.
