Loveland Adds Safety Bars to All Remaining Chairlifts
For the 2020-21 season, Loveland has installed safety bars on several existing chairlifts. A representative from the resort confirmed that all operational lifts now have this feature (Chair 5 has not operated since 2001). Prior to this winter, safety bars at Loveland only existed on the recently-installed Chet’s Dream high-speed quad.
Our Take
Previously, we wrote that Loveland’s slow, safety-barless chairs could be unnerving to ride on due to the wind exposure up there. Now that these bars have been installed everywhere, we imagine many nerves will be calmed. We’ve always felt Loveland to be a beginner-friendly area terrain-wise—especially thanks to its detached Loveland Valley area—and expect these retrofits to attract more families.
However, since they have no impact on the speed or capacity at which lifts move, we do not directly factor safety bars into our Mountain Score criteria. Loveland continues to receive a 4/10 for lifts in our ratings; the area has one high-speed quad servicing popular terrain, but all other lifts are slow.
