Snowbasin Adding New Strawberry High-Speed Six-Pack for 2023-24

Background

Snowbasin’s Strawberry zone is getting a second lift for the 2023-24 season, according to a release from the resort this morning. The new high-speed six-pack, tentatively named DeMoisy Express, will start next to the existing Strawberry Gondola and rise to a wind-protected area just above the Strawberry Traverse trail. The new lift will be able to carry up to 2,400 skiers and riders per hour, will involve an estimated ten-minute ride time, and will likely be paired with a handful of new runs.

Construction is likely to commence after the 2022-23 season ends.

Our Take

Snowbasin has made a lot of lift investments over the past several years, but if there’s any remaining project that’s needed, it’s this one.

The new DeMoisy lift looks to bring substantial circulation improvements to Snowbasin. First, the lift should provide much-needed relief for the Strawberry zone, nearly doubling the uphill capacity of the area. In addition, it looks like the new lift will also allow visitors to get back to the base without going all the way to the top of Strawberry, making it slightly faster to get between these areas. And finally, the DeMoisy lift seems like it will be significantly more wind-protected than the Strawberry Gondola, allowing the Strawberry zone to see more reliable opening schedules.

Snowbasin has been on a roll recently, and despite not-quite-as-good snow, it’s been catching up to Alta and Snowbird in our rankings in recent years. We’re looking forward to seeing how much closer in comparability these improvements push Snowbasin towards these top in-state rivals.
