Ikon Adds Red Mountain as a Pass Partner

Alterra has announced that Red Mountain in British Columbia, Canada will partner with Ikon starting in the 2020-21 season. Full passholders will have access to 7 days at both mountains, while base passholders will have access to 5 days. The resort will not be included on the Ikon Session Pass 4-Day.

Our Take

We haven’t reviewed Red Mountain yet, but the addition of this 3,800 acre mountain looks very promising for the long term. Strategically, Ikon needs all the help it can get to persuade Western Canada visitors to choose their passes over Epic’s, which offer unlimited access to the top-tier Whistler Blackcomb resort.

However, it’s unlikely that the addition of this Canadian resort will make much of an impact for this season. The U.S.-centric Ikon Pass attracts mostly American consumers, and it’s unclear whether U.S. citizens will even be able to travel to Canada this winter due to serious COVID-19 restrictions.
